Day 3: Kuranosuke Koibuchi

Day 3: Favorite Male Character Ever- Kuranosuke Koibuchi

Kuranosuke is the son of a wealthy family in Kuragehime (Princess Jellyfish) and serves as a main character, close friend, and mentor of the jelly-fish obsessed Tsukimi.

Some people like to argue that he is actually transgender and identifies as female which would disqualify him from the role of "favorite male character". However, if you really look at his character, this doesn't actually seem to be the case. Kuranosuke is very comfortable with both his male and female side, shedding the female wigs and clothes when he is alone with Tsukimi and at school, which suggests that he would at most be gender-fluid but his predisposition to being male in private and daily situations leans more towards him identifying male. He even goes so far as to almost reveal himself as male several times to Tsukimi's housemates, something he most likely wouldn't do if he wants to only be female. In addition, his family is aware of his cross-dressing but he doesn't take that as an opportunity to go full-time female, which he could have easily done using his family's wealth and power as a protective measure. In my opinion, his cross-dressing seems to stem more from a love of fashion and beauty, personified in his memories by his mother whom he cares for deeply, than an actual desire to be female.

Kuranosuke wins the spot for favorite male character by a long shot. He is confident, smart and comfortable with himself which is something I wish for myself. He wastes no time in stepping in to help his new friends (even if he is doesn't understand them all the time) and is ultimately working in his own way to get them to understand that they are all beautiful.  He is a sweet and funny character motivated by his blossoming friendship more than romantic feelings (so good). He wins more as a role-model to me than being the character I have the biggest crush on (that is a whole other discussion). Kuranosuke's win is backed up by his personality and character instead of just his looks and how much I fan-girl over him.
