Day 8: Your Favorite Anime Couple: Zen and Shirayuki
Zen Wistaria and Shirayuki are the protagonists of Akagami no Shirayukihime (Snow White with the Red Hair).
Where do I even start. I apologize for the weird quality of the gif but really the fist bump above is a perfect summary for why I love them. Zen and Shirayuki are the most adorable and pure couple I have ever seen in an anime. There are no nose-bleeds or accidental boob grabs. Their relationship matures slowly, beginning with supporting each other as friends, and eventually turning into a deep and healthy love. They embody pretty much everything that a relationship should be. They are kind to each other and support each other's goals, allowing each of them to get to where they want to be in life. Aside from when they first meet, they completely trust one another. Watching such a happy, light, and healthy relationship is uplifting to say the least.
There are some minor spoilers ahead so.... here is Zen protecting you from unwanted spoilers.
After making us wait for 10 episodes Zen FINALLY kisses Shirayuki and you can't help but smile. But what makes it amazing is the next thing he does is apologize for not asking permission; consent is so attractive. After doing this, Zen also promises he will let her come to terms with her feelings before he makes anymore steps towards being with her romantically. He makes good on that promise and let's her go to him when she finally does decide how she feels (and basically proposes when she does ugh so cute) It is so refreshing to have a gentleman in an anime!
Even though pretty much every episode I am whispering at the screen "kiss kiss kiss kiss kiss", I appreciate how infrequently they do. It shows that their love goes beyond the physical and makes it that much more innocent and enjoyable.
